The adze, hoe and mattock are similar agricultural tools used for digging and consist of a usually wide blade vertically attached on a long rod. In viticulture, they are used for shaping the soil, controlling weeds, digging holes and clearing soil in raisin and wine vineyards. Hoes are, also, a basic tool in rice cultivation.
