The avocado is a summer fruit. It has a green color, which is attributed to the concentration of certain antioxidant substances. In Messinia it is mainly cultivated at the municipalities of Trifilia and Pylos-Nestor. Avocados are consumed on their own or as a salad ingredient.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

The avocado is a rich source of vitamin A, which contributes to eye and bone health as well as to the immune system. The avocado is also a good source of vitamin E and pantothenic acid. Pantothenic acid is a key element for the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It also supports adrenal gland function, which helps the body regulate metabolism and respond to stress. Avocados help reduce the incidence of thrombotic episodes due to its high content of folic acid, while the potassium it contains regulates blood pressure. Finally, avocados are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which protect the cardiovascular system as a whole.
