Instructions
Boil 2 kg water adding 1 teaspoon of salt. In a frying pan add one wine glass of olive oil and 1 teacup of hilopites. Fry until light brown. Let the hilopites cool for a while and put them in the boiling water. Cook until ready. Serve with grated goat mizithra cheese.
Nutritional value
Being a cereal, hilopites are a good source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates constitute an energy source for the human body as they are easily dissolved and give immediate energy. Hilopites also contain complex carbohydrates, vitamins from the B group such as pantothenic acid or B5, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin and minerals (manganese, selenium and magnesium). The combination of hilopites with dairy products like mizithra cheese improves the total biological value of the vegetable protein they contain.
