In the summer, when we had tomatoes from our garden, we would cut a round slice of homemade baked bread, drizzle olive oil, grate a tomato on it, sprinkle salt and oregano, take a piece of cheese in our hand and run to play.
Between periods at primary school, we would all run home for a snack. We would go back to school holding a large slice of bread and with our hands covered in olive oil. One of our teachers forbade us to eat on the street. We had to eat at home, to wash ourselves and return. We hated it!!! Even now that I live in an apartment building, when I make my slice of bread, I stand at the balcony door and eat, never inside the house!!!
