Kid goat refers to a one year old goat. In Greece, a 1 to 2 year old goat is called ‘vetouli’. Kid goats are usually breeded for their meat. They are slaughtered when they are about 3 – 5 months of age because of their low content in fat. Meat from older goats is darker and considered tastier while the meat from female goats is the choice for steaks and chops. Goat milk can replace cow milk in the production of cheese, butter, ice cream and other food. It is also an alternative choice for people who are allergic to cow milk.
Goat meat contains high biological value protein, complex B vitamins, iron, zinc, and selenium.
