A yoke was a long wooden beam fitted to animals. It had a horizontal position, vertical to the clevis, i.e. the long wood or iron that connected the landside with the yoke. The yoke straps or collars were attached to the two edges of the yoke. The animals fitted to the yoke were oxen, donkeys, mules and horses.
