Raki(from the Turkish rakı) is produced by a single distillation process and with the addition of aromatic plants, such as aniseed. Its production process is quite similar to that of ouzo but the end result is different. Traditionally, it is served with pasteli.
There are no substantiated studies that show benefits from the consumption of raki. In every 100 ml of raki there are 300 calories and a 40% alcohol by volume content. Thus, a small glass of raki (40-50 ml) served with water and ice has 120-150 calories. Excessive consumption of any alcohol, including raki, increases triglyceride blood levels, blood pressure and body weight.
